Today we had our second Progress crit with Jo, we discussed our current situation within the brief and some useful points arose. The most important factor was that we needed to make our project 'whole' ...the 'full circle' ...as Jo believed we had short changed ourselves and the brief in not directing our audience to read in any way!! We need to consider what we want people to do as a result of seeing our words in the environment and question whether it is really enough to have people simply just reading these words. We discussed how we could use our stencilling in the environment as 'triggers' in line with other work we produce if we were to brand it all with a logo. Other work suggested for us to produce was flyers, posters, postcards etc. with the aim of directing our audience to reading in some way.
We also need to take into consideration how we are going to stencil our words; it was suggested that our current stencils would be too fine for stencilling with chalks and as we were not able to spray paint them, for legal reasons, we would need to use a thicker typeface. One method suggested was to dampen the surface and use a powder; flour, custard powder, cocoa, powder paint etc. This could work!
