Flip Book Experimentation.

I thought as there is a gradual build up to the final image, a small 'flipbook' could be a way to represent this, so I set about it....

I printed off each layer of my 100 gradually building up and cut them into squares (not accurately)

I then began to sequentially place them in a pile. As I was doing this I noticed the strength of the colours beginning to become apparent in the squares which were yet to be sorted.

My finished pile.....

I simply held these i place to see if it had my desired effect, as there were to many to bind with a split pin. However, I was able to see the potential of the visuals within this 'flipbook.'

I used only 25 of the 100 squares and bound them with a split-pin to see its effect on the image.

Using fewer pages and a split pin worked a treat!

However, I soon came to the conclusion that although this 'flipbook' is visually enticing, it serves no purpose. I would not be certain as to who would use it, where it would be used and what it will be used for. Consequently, I scrapped this idea and moved on to the next!

Plan.

This is my plan for my final outcomes. It consists of 4 posters, a flip book, a book of individual profiles and coded data blocks and a book explaining the logic behind all the designs. Quite a lot of work there and it may be a little too adventurous, but if I can pull it off it will be a cracking project.

Sweet Sweet Data Experimentation.

I carried on producing these minimalistic designs with the data blocks and profiles using solid blue, magenta and yellow as fills.

I experimented with the design layout of these data blocks; it's the little touches that count after all.

I wanted to display this layered star profile on it's own, so I experimented with different background colours to see what effect it had. I found that different colours enhanced different colours within the image but I feel the black background works the best at bringing out all the colours.

I incorporated these blocks at the bottom right hand corner to highlight the fact that the star shape is built up these three colours.

I used three lines instead of the three blocks to see the effects it had.

I created these two designs as possible cover designs as I have begun to consider transforming my 100 profiles into a book format.

Sweet Sweet Data.

I have continued to experiment with this star profile, as I feel it has an awful lot of scope for the production of some playful graphics which could be used in a variety of ways.

I have simply broken down the top image to reveal the 100 individual layers. I feel it is quite interesting for the audience to see how those 100 shapes can be layered upon each other to produce something so amazing.

I realised by simply presenting these blocks to an audience they would have no meaning and no context. Understandably, it is a piece of infographics, however, I feel I need to find a way in which I can convey the logic behind them to the audience. So I began exploring how I could covey my subject matter to my audience by firstly writing out the name of each sweet below.

I used alongside the text lines to create 4 columns as it appeared a lot neater than the text alone; giving more of a structure.

I began coding the names of the 100 sweets I had taste tested into data blocks. I am very happy with the results and definitely want to use these within my final realisation as I feel the interaction element really gives it something.

I laid out the star profiles in a grid demonstrating the gradual build up of layering until you reach the image of 100 layers. Although this one has not had the transparency adjusted, I think as a visual it works well.

Adjusting the transparency of each layer to 20% allows this build up to be clearly seen from start to finish. I like.

I experimented the alignment tools to see what effects came of it.

Placing the individual profile alongside its coded name has created this piece, I am very fond of it and could see this working across the whole 100.

More Sweet Sweet Playing.

Just a little experimentation into designs for a cover for my book.
